Lemon Baked Fish anyone !! Today I’m sharing a simplest way to bake a whole fish which is easy enough for midweek meals and it can be a show stopper in dinner party !!
I love baking as all of you are aware of it , and often I have found the most common baking questions I get asked are about baking fish . Apparently for average cook , preparing fish creates a lot of anxiety . Usually fish is very expensive and no one want to ruin it .There are ample ways to cook fish , the end goal should always be the same …. tender flaky fillets that are moist and well seasoned. Are you looking for the easiest and healthiest method for cooking fish or the best method for producing crispy skin. The important thing is matching a perfect balance of flavorful seasoning with the type of fish you buy and remember not overcooking it.
This baked fish recipe is our absolute favorite baked white fish bathed in a delicious lemon herb olive oil sauce and cooked on the bed of thinly sliced potatoes until tender and flaky . You don’t need any additional side dish to serve it . It’s a 20 minutes delicious dinner recipe.
I just love this recipe as it is full of bright lemon slices and flavor that goes so well with the mild tasting fish specially white fish. The easiest and best way to cook a fish is to make a whole baked fish. The flesh is at its juiciest and most tender , and it’s effortless.
Ingredients
1 kg whole white fish
Season with salt and pepper
For sauce :
1/2 cup olive oil
3 -4 tablespoons lemon juice
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
2-3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
For stuffing :
3-4 big lemon , thinly sliced
For a layer of potatoes:
5-6 big size potatoes , thinly sliced
2 onions , thinly sliced
3-4 red chilies , chopped , mix it well with olive oil and salt to bake with fish as side dish .
Method of cooking the recipe of baked fish :
Preheat oven at 220 degree Celsius . Spray baking tray with cooking oil.
Trim fins : cut all the fins on both sides of the fish by using scissors, and the fins on the back and underside of the fish , but don’t cut the tail.
Slash flesh : cut few slashes on each side of the fish, cutting through flesh down to the bone .
Marinate the fish with salt and pepper for an hour .
Make a sauce by mixing olive oil, lemon juice , ground black pepper and salt in a medium size bowl.
Rub the fish with sauce properly on both sides so that sauce enter into fish through slashes.
Stuff the slashes of fish : now stuff each slash with lemon slices . Sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper inside the cavity of the fish and stuff few lemon slices.
Take out prepared baking tray , place a layer of thinly sliced potatoes , onion and red chilies . Now place a whole fish over the layer of potatoes.
Sprinkle bread crumbs and chopped parsley on top of fish.
Place this tray in preheated oven and bake at 220 degree C for 20-25 minutes . Check by using a small knife at one of the slits in the fish to prise a bit of meat gently away from the spine . If it flakes away from the vine without resistance thn it’s done .
Serve the fish directly from the oven.
